About Superintendent Donald J. Jolly II

Donald J. Jolly II was appointed as Superintendent of the Warrensville Heights City School District on April 23, 2015. He previously served as Academic Superintendent in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District where he was responsible for the leadership and daily management of more than 6,200 scholars who attended the STEAM/Career Network of schools.

A native of Warrensville Heights, Donald is a proud graduate of Warrensville Heights High School. He received his degree in Early Childhood Education from Morris Brown College, earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Cleveland State University and completed the Superintendent Licensure program at Ashland University. In addition, he has been a participant in the Harvard Public Education Leadership Project and The Urban Schools Human Resource Capital Academy.

Prior to serving as Academic Superintendent, Donald served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal within Cleveland Metropolitan School District. His passion for students has been reflected in the thousands of lives he has influenced. In each position, his drive to educate our scholars at high levels is known throughout the district. As principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Career Campus, the school improved from “Academic Watch” to “Continuous Improvement" in one year. As principal of Warrensville Heights High School, Donald’s strategic plans and drive led to the school improving from “Academic Watch” to “Continuous Improvement” within two years. Donald’s proven record of success led to John Adams High School improving in nine out of 12 indicators in his first year.

Donald is a leader who develops leaders. Under his leadership, more than 15 teachers and assistant principals have moved into higher leadership positions. He is continuously seeking to add to his knowledge base and share the knowledge to make a difference with those around him. He has led institutional changes that have benefited the entire Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Donald led the tripling of Advanced Placement participation and a new principal hiring process. He is also a member of the Cleveland Aspiring Principal and Aspiring Network Leader Program advisory boards.

Donald is the son of Doris L. Jolly and the late Donald J. Jolly of Warrensville Heights. Donald and his wife, Larita, are the proud parents of three children — Brandon, Brittany and Donald III.
