Middle School Science and Art Fair Celebrates Scholars’ Learning

The talents and learning of scholars was on full display at the Middle School Science and Art Fair on Wednesday, May 11th. The presentation was available for viewing in the hallway outside of the cafeteria during Parent-Teacher conferences, and included a variety of projects by sixth and seventh grade scholars. For the science category, sixth grade scholars used mostly edible food products, including various candies and other sweet treats to construct models of animal and plant cells. Several scholars were on-hand to explain to visitors the various components of each cell and how they worked together.

Projects constructed by seventh grade scholars involved the principles of force and motion, as well as concepts from Let it Glide, a recent school presentation by the NASA Glenn Research Center. The seventh grade scholars showcased their learning by creating colorful display boards which answered essential questions about their topic and incorporated the scientific method. Scholars learning at an advanced level in both grades integrated technology into their presentation by creating stop-motion videos in partnership with the Progressive Arts Alliance.

The art portion of the exhibit featured impressive Andy Warhol inspired pop art prints created by seventh grade scholars, as well as three-dimensional color wheels and vibrantly colored weavings produced by sixth grade scholars.

The district would like to thank all parents who attended the Middle School Science and Art Fair, as well as the science and art education staff for helping to make the event a success!
