John Dewey Celebrates Bike Safety Awareness Month

To help celebrate Bike Safety Awareness Month, John Dewey Elementary hosted a special assembly on Wednesday, May 11th to provide scholars a fun way to learn about the importance of bike safety. Sergeant Parris Johnson from the Warrensville Heights Police Department modeled how to properly use hand signals when riding a bike on the street, and reviewed important safety equipment such as bike helmets, elbow pads and light reflectors. Cleveland Clinic Pediatrician Dr. Veronica Issac displayed how to properly wear a bike helmet and then guided scholars in playing a fun Bike Safety Game to review the important safety tips shared during the program. In addition to the assembly, all classrooms will participate in a Bike Safety Poster contest. Two winners, one boy and one girl, will be selected from each classroom to receive a free bike helmet. To conclude Bike Safety Awareness Month, John Dewey will hold a school-wide drawing to select one boy and one girl to receive a brand new bike! Thank you to Sergeant Parris Johnson and Dr. Veronica Issac for teaching our scholars the importance of bike safety.
