Geetings!

The Ohio Department of Education has released our district report card for the 2018/2019 school year.  I am pleased to share with you that we are continuing to make significant improvements on our return to excellence by earning an overall “C” on the district report card.

The academic gains over the last several years is a testament to the hard work and outstanding commitment by all of our students, teachers, support staff and administrators.  Together—One Team, One Vision, One Goal—we strive for excellence every day.  We provide all scholars with the tools and skills they need to be successful at the next grade level and upon graduation.

The progress of our district is at all levels. Our schools earned the following:

 SchoolGrade
John Dewey
Eastwood
Westwood
Middle School
High School

In Warrensville Heights City Schools, we embrace the differences of all our students and work to educate the whole child.  This means we ensure students are engaged, supported and challenged.  We focus on the long-term success of each scholar rather than temporary standardized achievement.

We have taken many steps to increase our academic performance, including:

• Focusing on literacy with 120-minutes of daily reading in grades Pre-K-3 and, 90 minutes in grades 4-8.

• Establishing a gifted and talented program to meet the needs of all learners.

• Offering College Credit Plus courses in the middle and high schools.

• Expanding career technical education options by offering 26 different career pathways for scholars.

• 1 to 1 technology at the high school, now every scholar has a Chromebook.

• Partnering with the Warrensville library branch to create a summer kindergarten readiness camp.

• Using our high school scholars to tutor elementary students through the Supporting Tutors Engaging Pupils (STEP) program.

• Training internal facilitators to support our Fundations Reading Program.

• Increasing arts enrichment programs through partnerships with Karamu House and Dancing Classrooms.

These are just a few of the ways we have worked to make prepare our scholars of today for the challenges of tomorrow.  We are dedicated an focused to insuring our scholars are learning at the highest levels on a daily basis.

In the coming days, we also will be releasing our first Quality Profile report, a tool that will serve to share our story.  We will highlight how we educate the whole child and the effectiveness of our district beyond the metrics of standardized tests.

I believe that with the continued support and participation from our Tri-City community, there is no goal we cannot achieve.

In Service,

Donald J. Jolly II
Superintendent
