Celebrating School Breakfast at John Dewey with Amazon

Today, our friends at Amazon and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign surprised our John Dewey Kindergarten and First Graders with a banana-themed event to celebrate our breakfast program. Employees from Amazon’s North Randall/Warrensville Heights local fulfillment center delivered bananas to our students and engaged them in fun activities to emphasize the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast.   There are many great things about our improved breakfast program.  In addition to having access to a nutritious breakfast, eating with classmates every morning creates a community experience, and it takes pressure off parents and caretakers to provide breakfast in the morning.

Kids who eat breakfast tend to perform better in school, have better attendance rates, and display fewer behavior problems. We know that morning routines can be hectic and many kids aren’t hungry when they wake up and that is exactly why we provide breakfast every morning in a way that allows all students to participate, even after the bell.

Our school is one of 100 throughout the U.S. to receive a funding grant through Amazon’s partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to bring breakfast into the classroom. The support is expected to help deliver over 3.1 million breakfasts to more than 29,000 students across the country and is a part of Amazon’s fight against hunger.
