WHHS Seniors Complete Aspiring Doctors Precollege Program
WHHS 12th grade students were on the campus of Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) for their last day of the Aspiring Doctors Precollege Program! Students started the day by applying the medical knowledge and critical thinking skills they’ve acquired throughout the year by taking part in Case-Based Learning with Dr. Barresi and Dr. Wiggers.
Students read through a case with faculty and then discussed vital signs and symptoms that were applicable to the case. Students then took part in a sensory changes lab during which they simulated the aging process. The activities simulated cataracts, loss of the sense of taste, limited mobility, and more. Before lunch, students heard from a panel of current Cleveland State freshman about the transition from high school to college. They had the opportunity to ask questions about life in college and hear advice from their peers about how best to prepare for college.
For lunch, the HS students met up with their medical student buddies for their last lunch together and even got to jump in the photo booth to make some lasting memories! During the last activity of the day, students learned how to take some vital signs including blood pressure and pulse with their very own stethoscopes!
OU-HCOM staff would like to thank all the community partners who have supported the WHHS scholars through the Aspiring DOctors Precollege Program! The students enjoyed a pizza party at the high school to celebrate all their accomplishments this year. OU-HCOM staff will also be at the upcoming Senior Breakfast on May 26 to present the awards to scholarship recipients.
