Take a Bow: Reader’s Theater
In a three-week period, fourth-grade scholars at Eastwood Elementary became actors and enhanced their self-confidence, reading and public speaking skills – thanks to volunteers from the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland. The Council introduced the scholars to performing arts with their Reader’s Theater project.
In Reader’s Theater volunteers lead a drama and literacy technique teaching the scholars to present a play using only a script. Reader’s Theater grows the scholars’ fluency, use of expression and reading comprehension while letting the scholars perform and narrate plays for an audience full of classmates.
