PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)

WHCSD is striving to embrace parent engagement. We are dedicated to building and nurturing a partnership between families of the district and community stakeholders to promote district-wide growth. According to research, parent engagement is a key factor for scholars’ success. Families are provided opportunities to both gather and share information of their scholar’s academic and social performance by attending open houses, parent-teacher conferences, Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meetings, workshops and participating in focus groups which create the platform for two-way communication. In addition, they are provided with curriculum-related activities lead by the district to strengthen scholar achievement.
To further two-way communication, each school has a designated parent liaison. The role of a parent liaison is to bridge the gap between families and schools by following-up with staff outreach and advocate for families. They also assist with how parents and community members can be involved within the district. The primary goals of a parent liaison are to assist with maintaining a welcoming climate, establish positive relationships with families and the community, and direct families to appropriate staff and resources.
