Kindergarten

Kindergarten

Welcome to the Warrensville Heights Early Childhood Center Kindergarten program! We believe the kindergarten years may very well be one of the most important times in the lives of young children and their families. This critical year introduces children to the world of formal schooling and can have a lasting impression that sets the stage for future school and learning experiences.

Families have a role to ensure children are healthy and ready to participate in school, while the role of the teacher is to provide quality classroom experiences so children can develop to their full potential. Regardless of the role, we all have a responsibility to make sure the first year of school is a time of joy and excitement as children embark upon their educational journeys.

State Testing in Kindergarten

At the beginning of each school year, in accordance with the Ohio Department of Education, WHECC kindergarten scholars take the Ohio’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Revised. This assessment measures a child’s readiness for engaging with instruction aligned to the kindergarten standards.

Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (birth to kindergarten entry) are the basis for the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Revised. The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Revised is used to assess four areas of early learning:

  • Social Foundations (including social and emotional development, and approaches toward learning)
  • Mathematics
  • Language and Literacy
  • Physical Well-being and Motor Development
