Environmental Science students (grades 11–12) investigated soil erosion and conservation by setting up outdoor “erosion trays.” Students compared a bare-soil control tray to trays that modeled different conservation methods—terracing (popsicle-stick steps), contour plowing (pea-gravel rows), and mulching (Hay). Conservation methods are land-management techniques designed to protect soil from being washed away, conserve nutrients, and improve long-term sustainability. Students ran controlled water across each tray, measured runoff and sediment, and analyzed which method best reduced erosion.
