As we begin to prepare for our March Into Kindergarten event in a couple of months, for planning purposes it is important that you understand the new kindergarten age eligibility requirements for Ohio. As of late December, Governor DeWine signed House Bill 114, which changes the kindergarten age eligibility requirement for children starting kindergarten in Ohio.
Children must be 5 years old on or before the first day of school to be eligible to enroll for the 2026–2027 school year. Warrensville Height City Schools tentative first day of school pending board approval is August 19, 2026. This means that your scholar must be five years of age on or before that date.
This is a change from the previous cutoff date and may impact some families as they plan for their child’s educational journey. Please contact the Warrensville Heights Early Childhood Center if you have any further questions and as always we continue to innovate, elevate and empower not only our scholars but our whole Warrensville Tiger Community. #TigerPride
